We are a private 200-bed medical center affiliated with a private university and contracted with the National Health Service for the care of its patients. The hospital attends to more than 300,000 patients per year and performs over 11,000 surgical procedures, of which Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery are the most frequent. The hospital encompasses all subspecialties of orthopedic surgery, ranging from spine surgery to tumor surgery. Its principal expertise lies in joint replacement and arthroscopic surgery, particularly of the knee, shoulder, and ankle. It serves as the reference center for Gran Canaria Basketball, a top-division team in Spain, and for Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, a team in Spain’s second-division football league. In addition, it treats a large number of athletes from many other disciplines, both in the Emergency Department and through scheduled medical and surgical care. The center has been accredited by ISAKOS for the past 20 years and has trained more than 30 specialists from various parts of the world who have completed their fellowship stays with us through the ISAKOS program. It has facilities for clinical research and has published approximately 20 articles in indexed journals.

Role of the fellow with respect to Clinical, Surgical, Research, and other opportunities: The fellows will be involved in the diagnosis and conservative management of patients, in surgical sessions—including active participation—and in the research projects conducted at the center.

Research projects, research facilities and resources, cadaver labs, publication opportunities, integration of the patient and public involvement, and the role of the fellow: The fellows will participate in patient care under the supervision and guidance of a specialist. They will assess patient outcomes directly, also under specialist supervision, as part of the research program, which is currently focused particularly on anterior cruciate ligament surgery, patellar instability, and cartilage pathology.
Related Conference/Lecture Schedule: The fellows participate in twice a week rounds of hospitalized patients.

Financial Support and Expenses

Types of Financial Support Available: No financial assistance or other support is available
Other support that the Teaching Center can provide: For fellows who have a convalidated Spanish title as physician, the center can provide a stipend of aproximately 1200 euros monthly
Estimate of Living Expenses (Housing and other major costs): Living cost in the island, which is a very important turistic place for Europe is expensive. The fellow should consider around 2000 € of monthly cost to live.
