Extensive experience with knee, shoulder reconstruction and upper extremity surgery is available through this fellowship. The fellowship is split between 4 (Sports Medicine) and 4 (Upper Extremity). Clinical research and outcome studies are also encouraged as part of the program. A staff of Research Associates, (Ms. Sheila McRae is the Director) can assist in project preparation and development. Clinical exposure to amateur and professional athletes and coverage of teams at the professional level are included. Participation in rounds and some teaching responsibilities are also part of the program. The fell will be in the operating room two to three days per week and in the clinic the remainder of the time. Teaching rounds are held on Thursdays. The fellowship is set in the state-of-the-art Pan Am Clinic with MRI, five operating rooms, Prehab Clinic, Primary Care, Orthopaedics, Plastics and Research facilities. It is one of the finest Sports Medicine facilities in Canada. The Arthroscopic Skills Training Center has recently been established at the pan Am Clinic with virtual arthroscopic trainers, musculoskeletal models and access to cadaver specimens.

Role of the fellow with respect to Clinical, Surgical, Research, and other opportunities: Role of attendant will include clinical, surgical and research responsibilities.
Types of Educational Opportunities:
Research projects, research facilities and resources, cadaver labs, publication opportunities, integration of the patient and public involvement, and the role of the fellow: Currently, we have over 40 ongoing research projects that include, but are not limited to: changes in muscle morphology after ACL reconstruction, effect of femoral tunnel angle on outcomes of ACL reconstruction, the effectiveness of training residents on a virtual reality knee simulator, the effect of ACL injury to surgery time on secondary pathology in the knee joint, and changes in fitness levels following ACL rupture. Fellow involvement can range from protocol development and initiation to manuscript preparation and submission. The extent of involvement depends on the status of research projects, the interest of the fellow and type of research project (i.e. clinical, observational or experimental)
