The Division of Knee Surgery, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine that leads the Fellowship Program, belongs to the Orthopedic Surgery Department of Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile School of Medicine. As a Teaching Center, we have medical students, residents and fellows that rotate in our team to complete their training in knee surgery and sports medicine. Our institution's knee surgery fellowship program consists of 12 months of theoretical and practical training in knee surgery, arthroscopy, trauma, and joint replacement. All activities are guided and supervised by fellowship-trained knee surgeons. It includes weekly teaching seminars, patient evaluations in clinics, assistance in knee surgeries, supervised surgical skills training with cadaveric and simulation courses, as well as the participation in scientific research, and specialty courses. Additionally, the fellowship program includes a certified Master in Knee Surgery.

Recent activity of Teaching Center: - Master in Knee Surgery: A 60-hour academic program designed for knee fellows and orthopedic surgeons, which includes theoretical classes, case discussions, and cadaveric steps, aimed at providing comprehensive knowledge and surgical skills on the most important topics in knee surgery.

Financial Support and Expenses

Types of Financial Support Available: A stipend is provided, Monthly Stipend of 2000usd
Other support that the Teaching Center can provide: Extra shifts at the emergency room are available for fellows to work, upon availability, to increase their monthly income.
Estimate of Living Expenses (Housing and other major costs): The fellows receive a monthly stipend that covers accommodation and associated expenses for living in Chile.

Research projects, research facilities and resources, cadaver labs, publication opportunities, integration of the patient and public involvement, and the role of the fellow: The Knee Division Specialists and its Fellows work in collaboration with the Research Division and the Engineering Department, with monthly meetings to coordinate and develop different research projects that range from basic science to clinical research. Some of the research facilities available to develop studies include biomechanical labs, cadaveric labs, 3D modelling tools among others. The fellows are encouraged to lead research projects, present their studies on international meetings of the specialty, and publish their findings. The program contemplates protected time for research activities.
