ISAKOS Global Traveling Fellowship

Purpose of the Award

The ISAKOS Global Traveling Fellowship is intended to foster the international exchange of knowledge and skills in the field of sports orthopaedic surgery. Coordinated by the ISAKOS Traveling Fellowship Committee, the fellowship will provide the opportunity for young orthopaedic surgeons from five regions to travel with an ISAKOS Godfather to the region of the next ISAKOS Congress. Fellows will have the opportunity to observe sports orthopaedic surgeries performed by highly respected surgeons, discuss the surgical procedures and all aspects of patient management, and discuss and share research experience.

Application Requirements

Applicants must be proposed and recommended by a current ISAKOS Member (recommendation letter required). The applicant should be 45 years of age or under, be able to speak English, have completed an orthopaedic surgery residency and have a practice focusing on sports surgery. Applicants are required to submit a letter of recommendation from an ISAKOS Member, their CV, and a 250-word statement explaining how they will use the knowledge and skills gained from the fellowship.

Applicants must be available to travel prior to and attend the Biennial ISAKOS Congress. Due to the distances and travel times needed between potential host sites in the Asia Pacific region, applicants should plan for their Traveling Fellowship to begin on May 15, 2027 and conclude in Sydney, Australia on May 29, for the start of the congress on May 30, 2027.

Review Process

Applications will be reviewed and successful fellows will be selected by the ISAKOS Traveling Fellowship Committee.

Fellowship

Each fellowship recipient will receive assistance with travel and accommodations to several centers. Fellows must complete travel within the designated term and must document their travels, with a written report of the experience.

Note: Individuals are only permitted to receive one fellowship per lifetime. ISAKOS fellowship recipients, if not already an ISAKOS Member, are required to become an ISAKOS Member prior to receiving their award. One year of Membership dues will be waived in the year of the Congress.
