Summary
Modified Fulkerson’s osteotomy and MPFL reconstruction Combined lateral retinacular release with Arthroscopic for recurrent Patella Dislocation
Abstract
Purpose
To investigate the short-term results of treating the recurrent patella dislocation by Modified Fulkerson’s Osteotomy and MPFL reconstruction Combined lateral retinacular release with Arthroscopic.
Methods:During May 2014 and May 2016 , 37 cases of patients with recurrent patellar dislocation(more than 3 times) treated by Modified Fulkerson’s Osteotomy and The medial patellfemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction Combined lateral retinacular release with Arthroscopic. All patinets reconstruction MPFL with autogenous semitendinosus tendon. There were 11 male and 22 females( 4 bilateral), 17left knees and 20 right kness ; average age of 22.2years old(range15 to 38); The results were positives for Image examination, the subjective IKDC scores ,functional evaluation (Lysholm score),subjective assessment and clinical results were comprehensive evaluated in these patients。
Results
The patients were followed up for 8-24 months. 4 patients suffered pain, 3 skin hypesthesia near tibial tubercle. 5 patients suffered stiffness of the knee. However , all these complications disappeared after rehabilitation and conservative treatment. At the end of follow up, there were no patients with dislocation and subluxation. The IKDC score was significantly improved from preoperative(34.2±4.7) to postoperative(93.8±5.2 ) (P<0.01) ; The Lysholm score was significantly improved from preoperative(44.7±6.2) to postoperative(91.2±4.3) (P<0.01)
Conclusion
The Arthroscopic lateral patellofemoral retinaculum loosenin and medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction with modified Fulkerson’s Osteotomy is a minim-ally invasive operation and can effectively treat recurrent patellar dislocation, contribute to relieve symptoms, restore knee function.. Its short-term clinical outcome is satisfactory.
