Summary

We had treat tibial intercondylar eminence fracture by internal fixation within osteoepiphysis under arthroscopy and did the second check of the knees under arthroscopy.

Abstract

Purpose

To investigate the effect of surgical treatment of tibial intercondylar eminence fracture by reduction and internal fixation within osteoepiphysis under arthroscopy.

Methods

Retrospective analysis was performed in 11 teenagers(8 males and 3 females, with a mean age of 12.9+2.1 years old) with tibial intercondylar eminence fracture who were treated by internal fixation under arthroscopy in the center from 2007-2010. Clinical data were collected from outpatient and telephone follow-up from 6 months to years after the surgery. 9 patients received internal fixation removal and re-exporation under arthroscopy. The therapeutic effect was evaluated based on X-ray examination and Lysholm Knee score.

Results

After the surgery, all the patients healed well with quick recovery of knee function and no complications such as fixation fracture, knee instability and knee dysfunction. The average Lysholm knee scores before and after operation were 66.1 and 96.0. respectively.

Conclusion

Treatment of tibial intercondylar eminence fracture by internal fixation under arthroscopy is effective for diagnosis and recovery of the fracture, and also avoid injury of tibial growth plate in a long term.
