Summary

This study was to compere hematologic changes (Hb, CRP, D-dimer) with CS-type TKA between PCL-retaining and PCL-resection at pre-op, postop 1day, 4days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks. Hematologic changes (Hb and CRP ) in the PCL-resection group were higher than in the PCL-retaining group. PCL-resection was related to hematologic changes.

Abstract

Comparison of hematologic changes with CS-type Total Knee Arthroplasty between PCL- retaining and PCL-resection

Purpose

Triathlon CS-type TKA can be used with or without PCL. This study is to compare hematologic changes with CS-type TKA between PCL-retaining and PCL-resection.

Materials And Methods

This study included 90 patients who underwent CS-TKA with PCL-retaining and 205 patients who underwent CS-TKA with PCL-resection. The following data were compared between the groups at the pre-op, post-op 1day, 4days, 1week, 2weeks, 4weeks: changes in hemoglobin (Hb), C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer.
RESULT: The Hb count was most reduced on average by 1.97±0.90g/dl in the retaining group and by 2.34±1.24g/dl in the resection group on the 4th postoperative days; the value was statistically significantly higher in the resection group. Blood transfusion was not performed in all cases. The highest CRP value was observed on the 4th postoperative days 4.8±3.5mg/dl in the retaining group and 6.9±3.9mg/dl in the resection group; the value was statistically significantly higher in the resection group. The highest D-dimer value was observed on 1st postoperative week in both groups: 10.5±6.0µg/ml in the retaining group and 12.1±8.4µg/ml in the resection group. There was no statistically significant difference in all periods.

Conclusion

Hematologic changes (Hb and CRP ) with CS type TKA in the PCL-resection group on the 4th postoperative days were higher than in the PCL-retaining group. The present study was able to show that PCL-resection was related to hematologic changes.
