Summary

The concept of Enhanced Recovery pathway in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery is safe and feasible.

Abstract

Purpose

Objective

to investigate the feasibility and short-term of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) in the perioperative period of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Methods

A total of 72 cases of anterior cruciate ligament rupture underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery were divided into ERAS group and control group, 36 cases in each group. Use of autogenous tendon single bundle anatomical reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament, ERAS group combined with nerve block in operation, to maintain normal body temperature, postoperative multimodal analgesia, doctors help early passive functional exercise, 1-2 years follow-up after operation, compared two groups of patients with postoperative hospitalization time, different degree of pain, ROM of knee joint , stability of knee joint, function of thigh muscle, Lysholm score, etc..

Results

The VAS of the ERAS group in the 1, 24, 48 h and 3 ~ 7d were respectively, (1.65 + 0.94), (2.41 + 1.45), (2.09 + 0.80), (1.35 + 0.73)%, significantly lower than that of the control group (6.83 + 1.02)%, (6.87 + 1.95), (6.39 + 0.70), (5.69 + 0.63), the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Compared with the traditional rehabilitation group, ERAS group to accelerate the rate of postoperative complications decreased, increased activity, of the knee joint and the Lysholm score, the ROM of knee joint recovery and hospitalization time is shortened obviously, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05).

Conclusion

The concept of Enhanced Recovery pathway in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery is safe and feasible. That can reduce postoperative pain, shorten the hospitalization time after operation, recover the knee joint flexion and extension of the scope of activities faster, and may even be back to sports earlier, and does not increase the incidence of complications.
