Summary
To patients of O’Donoghue knee triad, open kinetic chain exercises from 2 weeks postoperative is safe and effective, and it’s necessary for patients to continue rehabilitation more than 12 months.
Abstract
Purpose
To evaluate the effect of O’Donoghue knee triad’s (Combined knee injuries involving anterior cruciate ,medial collateral ligament tears and medial meniscus tears) rehabilitation in perioperative period.Method: A total of 28 patients of O’Donoghue knee triad were enrolled between 2012 Dec. to 2015 Jan., all of whom accepted arthroscopic surgery (arthroscopic reconstruction of meniscus, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and medial collateral ligament reconstruction) . And the patients accepted the early system rehabilitation process and exercises, including preoperative information, isometric muscle exercises, open kinetic chain exercises from 2 weeks postoperative in a restricted range of motion of 30-45°, neuromuscular training , etc. All the patients was followed up at 12months, we study stability, HSS score, and if they returned to play like never hurt or not.Result:All patients’ limb knee drawer test and lateral stress test were negative. 28.6% of their HSS score was greater than 70 (18 of 28 >85, 8 of 28 between 70 to 85).But only 8 of them thought they had returned preinjury activity(28.6%).Conclusion: To patients of O’Donoghue knee triad, open kinetic chain exercises from 2 weeks postoperative is safe and effective. The system rehabilitation can improve the life quality of the patients, but can’t help them return preinjury activity at 12 months. It’s necessary for patients to continue rehabilitation more than 12 months.
