Thank You from the President & 2013 Program Chair

ISAKOS would like to sincerely thank all who participated in the 9th Biennial Congress, held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on May 12-16, 2013!  The Biennial Congress is a cornerstone of ISAKOS’ mission to “advance the worldwide exchange and dissemination of education, research and patient care in arthroscopy, knee surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine”.  The Biennial Congress provides a unique opportunity for an international dialogue with renowned experts.

The ISAKOS Congress is well known in the international community for the unique opportunities it presents to network and discuss ideas with experts from around the world on a variety of specialties.  The 2013 ISAKOS Congress is brought more than 3200 orthopaedic surgeons, allied health personnel, residents, fellows and physical therapists to Toronto.

The ISAKOS Program Committee worked hard to develop an exciting program that emphasized evidence based medicine, new surgical developments and basic science.  The ISAKOS Congress included instructional course lectures, live surgical demonstrations, symposia, debates, lectures, scientific paper presentations, electronic posters, and lunch time lecture and workshop sessions.  A diverse multi-disciplinary faculty presented technical pearls and pitfalls, new and emerging research, and exciting trends.

The city of Toronto was an ideal location for the ISAKOS Congress.  Known for its international perspective, Toronto has one of the largest non-native populations of any city in the world, with nearly 49% of occupants born outside of Canada.  Toronto is consistently voted to be one of the “most livable cities,” including a thriving arts scene with more than fifty ballet and dance companies, six opera companies, two symphony orchestras and a host of theatre companies.   Congress attendees enjoyed local landmarks such as Toronto's most prominent landmark, the CN Tower; the Royal Ontario Museum, the Toronto Zoo, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Ontario Science Centre, and the Hockey Hall of Fame.  Congress attendees also visited the city in time to catch a game with the Toronto Blue Jays, who play for the American League of Major League Baseball.

You were a vital part of the 9th Biennial ISAKOS Congress! We hope you enjoyed participating in the international excitement and experience that is the ISAKOS Congress.  Thank you for joining us in Toronto!
