PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE
My career, both with ISAKOS and overall, has been characterized by vision, productivity, performance and transparency. I have always been greatly influenced by Dr. Albert B. Ferguson, Jr. Dr. Ferguson was an excellent surgeon, researcher, and teacher – a sports medicine pioneer. His greatest legacy would be the students he trained, and I am honored to have had the privilege of being
one of his trainees. His philosophy continues to influence me daily: “Do the right thing, take care of your patients, and they will take care of you.”
One of my most rewarding experiences as an orthopaedic surgeon is receiving a big smile and
a thank you from a patient, so I feel a personal stake in ISAKOS mission to “advance the worldwide exchange and

dissemination of education, research and patient care in arthroscopy, knee surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine.
I became involved with ISAKOS in 1995 by serving on the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Committee. I would serve as a member of the ISAKOS Board of Directors for ten years, and served as President from April 2009 through March 2011.
As ISAKOS President, my mission was to integrate and inspire international leaders to provide collaborative education, research experiences, and opportunities for ISAKOS members, especially in countries with developing technologies. I appreciate having had the opportunity to promote ISAKOS, as well as to experience significant growth within our society.
I feel that ISAKOS is capable of maintaining its role as a world leader in the field by continuing to maintain its strong educational foundation. ISAKOS will accomplish this by continuing to provide committee projects of high scientific quality, diverse initiatives for members including regional educational events and collaborative courses, and member benefits.
It is telling that the most memorable “challenge” during my term as ISAKOS President was the selection of the best bottle of wine to share with my ISAKOS family–a tough decision among a very diverse group of Board Members!
