2017 ISAKOS Biennial Congress Faculty

Andy Williams, MBBS, FRCS(Orth), FFSEM(UK)

Fortius Clinic
London UNITED KINGDOM

Andy undertakes soft tissue surgery and osteotomy of the knee: especially ligament reconstruction and sports injuries dealing with many UK sports teams including 75% of English Premiership soccer and rugby teams. He is a founder of Fortius Clinic, London. His research is prize-winning (over 150 publications and a lead editor of 39th Edition of Gray’s Anatomy). His studies of knee motion employing weight-bearing, ‘dynamic’, MRI changed thinking in this field. Current research includes inflammatory response to knee injury, and biomechanics at Imperial College, London, where an anatomical study of the lateral soft tissue restraints aiding the ACL he co-authored was awarded the Trillat Prize at ISAKOS 2015. Current focus is on the medial soft tissue envelope. Clinical research is mainly on outcomes of surgery in elite athletes. He was on the executive of The British Association for Surgery of The Knee. He sat on the Editorial Board of the Bone and Joint Journal and is currently a Editorial Board member of The AmJSpMed. He is a member of the ESSKA Sports Committee, and ISAKOS ‘Knee: Sports and Preservation’ Committee. He was named in the UK’s Top 100 Doctors by the Times newspaper in 2011. He was Hunterian Professor of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (2005), ABC Travelling Fellow (2002). He is a member of the Herodicus Society (2018).
