History of the Award

The Nicola’s Foundation Young Researcher Award began at the 2009 ISAKOS Congress in Osaka, Japan. Created by Dr. Giuliano Cerulli in memoriam of his young son, the Nicola Foundation Research and Teaching Center is located in Arezzo, Italy. The Nicola’s Foundation was officially recognized as a non-profit organization and operates in the promotion of research and scientific advancement in the field or orthopaedics and tramatology.

Purpose of the Award

The Nicola’s Foundation Young Researcher Award is for a young researcher given in the name of Nicola’s Foundation ONLUS. Dr. Giuliano Cerulli created the award as an opportunity for young researchers to showcase their research in the sphere of orthopaedics and traumatology.

Application Requirements

To be considered for the Nicola’s Foundation Young Researcher Award, applicants must first submit an abstract related to orthopaedic and traumatology research for the ISAKOS Congress followed by the online award application. Applicants are required to provide their curriculum vitae and must be under 35 years of age at the date of the 2013 Congress.

Abstracts and award applications must be submitted before September 01, 2012.

Review Process

All applications submitted for the Nicola’s Foundation Young Researcher Award will be reviewed by members of the ISAKOS Scientific Committee. Five finalists will be chosen based upon a 20 point grading scale scoring the quality of the topic (5 points), clarity of writing (5 points) and scientific quality (10 points). The five finalists are required to submit an e-poster for review in advance of the ISAKOS Congress. The committee will review the e-posters based upon the same scoring system and will select a winner based on those results. The winner must prepare a standard poster for presentation at the ISAKOS Congress.

Award

Registration to the ISAKOS Congress will be waived for the winner. The winner will present the e-poster after receiving a framed certificate and a cash honorarium of 1,500 Euros during the awards ceremony at the ISAKOS Congress.
